How to get free Kindle books

January 7, 2011

We've all been there before... sitting on the bus or SkyTrain for half an hour and you just want to read something. However, you don't really like carrying books all over the place with you, and you don't feel like shelling out $379.99 USD for a Kindle when you just bought a brand new shiny Smart Phone or a tablet.

Lucky for us, Amazon was nice enough to provide a free Kindle app for almost every major device out on the market. (Clicking the QR Code will show the full sized version)

After downloading the Kindle app for your device, the next step is signing up for an Amazon account. Sadly, you will need to give your credit card number, but you won't need to pay for the books I'm about to show.

Once you've got an account set up and are logged in, all you have to do is go to the Kindle eBooks section and sort by Price: Low to High.

BAM! Over a thousand free books at your fingertips, downloaded straight to your smartphone/tablet/computer.

There's also a really handy tool that you can use to convert PDFs into the Kindle format so your Kindle app will be able to read them.

Basically you just open a PDF inside the application and define a couple simple rules and hit the Convert button. Within a couple minutes, it'll spit out a brand new .mobi file that your Kindle app can read, and thus you can take your PDFs with you wherever you go.
